Internet Job Posting Tips (a refresher):
1. Use generic job titles/keywords, not internal ones - Think about what search terms job seekers might use to find you jobs. Also add something unique so you stand out. As an example: Don't use "Sr. S/W Engineer II" or "Software Engineer". Use "Software Engineer - Embedded Systems". And Don't say EXCITING OPPORTUNITY! for a job title - Yes, we STILL have to tell people not to do that.
2.
Keep it simple, Avoid copying and pasting from your job description manual. It makes your company look too formal - Not exciting to work for. Job seekers don't read the whole thing anyway. Remember, people are used to short visits on Internet pages. Get creative with your job descriptions. It pays off big. Hire a wordsmith if necessary.
3.
Make it easy for people to go from the job posted on career Web sites to the job posted on your site (for application instruction). Many excellent candidates are lost when they have to click and click and click to find the equivalent job on your site.
4. Don't trust your application tracking system. Your IT folks should be able to tell where your job seekers come from by looking at you Web referrer logs. Work with them or complain to your ATS vendor. Read more at MinnesotaJobs.com/HRSection/atssourcing.pdf .
5. Can you go back to e-mailed resumes yet? Many of the better career Web sites hide them so you don't get unwanted e-mails. Also spam filters are getting better and better. You could set up a very restrictive whitelist. This is by far the best way to get resumes.
